Summer Newsletter

June Year End Newsletter

June 24, 2026

Dear members,

Before we close the door on another school year, I simply want to say thank you. Thank you for the difference you make every day in the lives of students, for the support you provide to one another, and for the many ways you have strengthened our Local throughout the year. Together, we have shown what is possible when educators stand united in support of public education.

Thank you for the care, dedication, and support you have provided to your students each day. Thank you also for the countless ways you supported our Local and public education this year, whether it was signing petitions, wearing Red4Ed, attending events, sharing your voices, and standing together in solidarity. Your collective efforts have made a difference.

We would like to acknowledge the following award winners for their outstanding contributions working with members at their schools and the Local: Katie Murray for the Health and Safety Activist Award, Ana Limberopoulos, Dawn-Marie Deagle, and Jen MacGregor for the Workplace Steward Award, and Brent Dixon, Kevin Durocher, and Jim Nikas for the Local Honorary Life Award.

As summer begins, I hope you give yourself permission to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family, friends, and loved ones. Whether that means reading a good book, travelling, spending time outdoors, or simply sitting on the couch binge-watching Netflix as the world slows down from the incredible pace that was set this year, take the time you need without guilt. This year has placed tremendous demands on educators, and you have earned the opportunity to refresh and renew.

Thank you for the incredible work you do every day. I appreciate the trust you place in me as your President, and the support you provide to your released team and Executive as we work to serve and advocate for our membership. I am continually inspired by your commitment, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to your students. Despite the many challenges educators face, you continue to create welcoming, caring, and engaging learning environments where students can thrive. The impact you have on the lives of students, families, colleagues, and communities is immeasurable, and I am proud to represent such an extraordinary group of educators.

Have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer. You deserve it.

In solidarity,
Mike Thomas

'President, ETFO Thames Valley Teacher Local
