Legislative Petition to Reduce Class Size
Dear Members,
As we look ahead to central bargaining, we know we are entering what will likely be a challenging round of negotiations. With our collective agreement set to expire on August 31, 2026, our Union is gearing up early - mobilizing members and community allies across the province to build the momentum we’ll need.
January and February mark the launch of a series of province-wide actions as part of the Smaller Classes. Big Difference. campaign. In schools across Ontario, ETFO is rolling out a three-part action plan: a legislative petition, a Day of Action, and a community postcard campaign. All three will take place before the end of this school year - and the first action is already underway.
We are asking every member to take part by signing our Legislative Petition, which calls on the provincial government to make the investments students need - smaller class sizes, increased supports, and well-resourced public schools.
Your Workplace Steward will be providing you with a copy of the petition. We are asking each member to help collect 10 signatures (any Ontario resident can sign). Family Day weekend is a perfect opportunity to spark a few conversations with friends and family.
Our goal is to collect tens of thousands of signatures by the end of February, ensuring our message is heard as the provincial budget is finalized.
Mark your calendar: To ensure petitions reach Queen’s Park in time, please return completed forms to your Workplace Steward by Wednesday, February 18. Stewards will collect and forward them to the Local that week.
When we act together, we build the pressure needed to protect and strengthen public education for our students and our communities.
Thank you for all you do. Your commitment and advocacy to support students and the Union truly make a difference and strengthen public education.
- Mike Thomas, President
